Abstract

Basically, this article will discuss the development of Islamic law thought in Indonesia. According to the dynamic characters of Islamic law, these developments have led to the various trends such as conservative, liberal, moderate etc. The current trend of thought will be analyzed derived from the selected works and writings of contemporary Muslim-Indonesian scholars especially from Islamic higher institutions in Indonesia. In order to achieve the objective, this study will use a qualitative approach. Based on the findings, it was found that their thoughts and methodologies are more advanced than the other Islamic countries. This advancement happened because of their openness to ideas and new methodology, whether they were from western or Middle East scholars.
