Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the use of a computer-based model to analyze the design, material and operation of a building. By integrating BIM with Green Building Index (GBI), which is a green rating tool in Malaysian Industry to evaluate the level of sustainability in the built environment, the building industry can move toward sustainable design. BIM will help building professional to have a realistic full life cycle assessment of a building in early design stage to prevent rise of problem between project design and energy efficiency design. By reducing the energy demand in building the total energy consumption in the country can significantly decrease. The better design process through application of BIM is proposed in order to minimize the energy consumption in office building. This study shows the level of BIM awareness among building professional in Malaysia is poor.
