Abstract

A data warehouse can be summarized as a collection of data from various sources that will be used in the management’s decision-making process. Due to the demand of information for decision making process, the data warehouse concept is getting popular and widely implemented especially in libraries after Nicholson introduce the concept of data mining for libraries. Furthermore, the growth of Internet users and information in digital format had justified the need of e-library data warehouse to improve the e-library service. Hence, a framework of building e-library data warehouse is proposed in this dissertation. The major steps in developing the e-library data warehouse were discussed especially the extraction, transformation, loading and scheduling. The challenges of building this e-library data warehouse was to deal with unstructured and semi-structured data such as web sources. This proposed framework will be able to handle this type of data source during extraction and transformation part. As the data source will be growing and evolving, this framework also deal will these issues as to meet the configurable and evolution requirement. The result of using this framework to develop e-library data warehouse is presented as a web based system. The evaluation on using the web based system was performed in this dissertation.
