Abstract

<p><font face="Arial">For products made from fired clay, the firing temperature is very well established. However when wastes from various sources with various contents were added into clay to make products such as bricks and tiles, the firing temperature may vary. From the literature it was found that, sludge from waste water treatment plant (both sewage and industrial) are commonly used for making building materials. However,information with regard to firing temperature is inconclusive. Therefore, in this work, sludge from waste water treatment plant was added into clay in proportions of lOwt%, 15wt% and 20wt%. The fired samples were evaluated for specific engineering applications. The strength, density, shrinkage and water absorption characteristics of the samples were studied.The details on effect of firing temperature on the characteristics of the samples and problems faced while preparing the samples are discussed.</font></p>
